Gontarek invests in new eye care equipment

By Gontarek Eye Care – 11/15/15

We are excited to announce that Gontarek Eye Care has recently purchased two new pieces of cutting-edge diagnostic equipment to better serve our families in Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Chesapeake.

We’ve updated to the newest version of the Optomap Retinal Imaging device. The Optomap is used to obtain an ultra-wide digital image of the retina without the need for dilation drops. You’ve most likely had an imaging of your eyes done on our previous OPTOS instrument. This is the part of the pre-testing that you experience a mild, brief flash of light when the image is taken.

Our eye doctors use this instrument to help us detect signs of diabetes, hypertension, tumors, retinal tears and detachments, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other eye diseases or disorders.

Our other piece of new equipment is the Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT), a new medical non-invasive diagnostic imaging technology that performs high-resolution cross-sectional imaging of the retina in 2D and 3D.

The OCT looks at all layers of the retina allowing our eye doctors to see early pathology such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and macular holes. This helps us better detect and diagnose these conditions in their early stages before vision is affected.

With the addition of the newer model Optomap and the OCT, comprehensive eye exams are now completed faster and in greater comfort for our patients. They also provide our eye doctors with greater detail about the health of your eyes so that we can take even better care of you!

Not all eye care practices have these technologies because they require significant financial investment. WE DO because we feel you deserve the best eye care possible. No shortcuts. We are grateful for our patients and the families we serve. Our eye doctors are committed to re-investing into our practice to make each of your future visits better than the last. Every dollar your family spends with us will be seen again in the future care you receive.
